Physicians, radiation physicists and radiation or cancer biologists who meet one of any of the following criteria are eligible for Active membership:
Active ASTRO members are eligible to receive all of the benefits listed below at special member rates. In addition, Active members have voting rights in the Society, may participate on Society committees and are eligible to hold elected office in the Society.
Active membership dues are $640 U.S. annually.
Physicians who have successfully completed residency training in radiation oncology in an accredited radiation oncology program, but who have not been certified in radiation oncology by the ABR, or by another board recognized as being of equivalent rank, are eligible for Affiliate membership. Physicians who are certified in another specialty by the American Board of Medical Specialties or by another board recognized as being of equivalent rank and have a demonstrated interest in the management of patients with cancer, are also eligible for Affiliate membership.
Affiliate ASTRO members are eligible to receive all of the benefits listed below at special member rates. In addition Affiliate ASTRO members have voting rights in the Society and may participate in Society committees.
Allied membership dues are $640 U.S. annually.
Physicians, radiation physicists and radiation or cancer biologists who devote a substantial portion of their professional time to radiation oncology or radiation sciences and who reside outside of the United States are eligible for International membership. International physician members shall either be board certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or a board recognized by the Board of Directors as being of equivalent rank to the ABR, or hold membership in a national or regional radiation oncology society in their country or region of practice.
International ASTRO members are eligible to receive all of the benefits listed below at special member rates. In addition, International members have voting rights in the Society and may participate on Society committees.
International membership dues are $400 U.S. annually.
Non-physician clinical health care specialists or other individuals who work in a clinical health care environment who have recognized interests in the aims of the Society, including, but not by way of limitation, medical physicists, medical dosimetrists, radiation or cancer biologists, physician assistants, radiation therapists, radiation oncology nurses and practice administrators are eligible for associate membership.
Associate ASTRO members are eligible to receive all of the benefits listed below at special member rates. In addition, Associate members may participate on Society committees.
Associate membership dues are $135 U.S. annually.
Individuals who hold a doctoral degree, do not hold a faculty position, and are engaged in mentored research for the purpose of acquiring the professional skills needed to pursue a career in radiation oncology are eligible for Postdoctoral Fellow membership.
Postdoctoral Fellow ASTRO members are eligible to receive all of the benefits listed below at special member rates. In addition, Postdoctoral Fellow members may participate on select Society committees.
Postdoctoral Fellow membership is offered free of charge.
U.S. and international residents who are in an accredited therapeutic radiation oncology program are eligible for Member-in-Training membership. Members-in-Training must apply for Active, Affiliate or International membership within 30 days of completing their residency program. Member-in-Training status will automatically terminate if an application is not submitted within the 30-day period.
Member-in-Training membership is offered free of charge.
U.S. and international medical students enrolled full-time in an accredited school of medicine, or graduate students enrolled in a doctoral program are eligible for Student/Graduate Student membership.
Student/Graduate Student ASTRO members are eligible to receive all of the benefits listed below at special member rates.
Student/Graduate Student membership is offered free of charge.
Emeritus membership may be conferred by the Board of Directors of the Society upon request to the Secretary/Treasurer for any Active, Associate, Affiliate or International member who has been a member for at least five of the prior seven years and who has voluntarily retired from active practice or who has been retired for at least one year by reason of physical disability.
Request for transfer to Emeritus membership must be submitted using the Application for Transfer to Emeritus membership form.
Emeritus ASTRO members are eligible to receive the benefits listed below at special member rates.
Emeritus membership is offered at no charge.
Honorary Membership is the highest honor ASTRO bestows upon distinguished cancer researchers and leaders in disciplines other than radiation oncology, radiation physics or radiobiology. Honorary members cannot be eligible for Active ASTRO membership and must be nominated and supported by Active ASTRO members. The ASTRO Board of Directors is responsible for reviewing nominations and selecting Honorary members. Please see awards for detailed nomination instructions and selection criteria.
