Welcome to APEx

“APEx is far more comprehensive, rigorous and radiation therapy-specific than any other accreditation program out there.” – Suneel Nagda, MD, University of Pennsylvania

Welcome to APEx, the practice accreditation program from the world’s premier radiation oncology society. ASTRO created this unique program to support quality improvement in radiation therapy practices. Facilities that obtain practice accreditation demonstrate the systems, personnel, policies and procedures needed to meet APEx standards for high quality patient care.

What sets APEx apart?

  • Your facility completes an internal and external assessment of performance based on recognized standards.
  • The APEx assessment ensures appropriate systems and processes are in place.
  • Improves patient and other stakeholder confidence in the quality of care at your facility.
  • Provides evidence that your facility has met specific performance measures for high quality care.
  • It is built on specific standards of performance focused on each practice’s systems, policies and procedures.

What are the benefits to becoming an accredited facility?

  • The process begins with a comprehensive self-assessment, so facilities know what needs to be revised to meet specifications prior to site visit.
  • Meets requirements for Improvement Activities in Medicare’s Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).
  • Satisfies the American Board of Radiology’s Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program through the APEx PQI template.
  • Satisfies the radiation therapy component for the Commission on Cancer (CoC) and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).
